DC Big Flea Market: January 8-9
I hit up my favorite little retro time capsule this past weekend; the DC Big Flea Market at the Dulles Expo Center. Two cavernous warehouses filled with overflowing bric-a-brac that can easily induce bank account suicide. I didn’t bother taking a bunch of photos this time.
I almost pounced on that Schwinn Sting-Ray above ($300) until I realized that it was not original to the 1960s. It was produced in the 1980s as a throwback edition. I believe it was called the Sting-Ray II. I want an original suicide shift model, but those can command upward of $1000.
My haul was pretty modest today:
1) A reproduction poster from Brando’s legendary 1953 film, The Wild One. One of my all time favorite movies. Once I find a suitable frame this will be going on my wall at the office. It only set me back $5.00.
2) 1960s mid-century modern collapsable magazine rack. I have been searching for one of these for ages. It is in desperate need of some Old English to buff out the nicks and scratches, but otherwise great condition. Only $28 from Pittsburgh-based retailer Le Mix Antiques.
